Bio-Ag Enews#11..... Overview of January 2006 Seminar

The annual Bio-Ag Seminar, which is held every year at the end of January, was again a testament to the forward thinking of many of the people in our local community as well as some abroad. Over 200 people attended the event over the course of the two days.

Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) - John Smoll

Our first guest speaker, Mr. John Smoll of Michigan brought us a very uplifting and supportive message regarding the use of Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) and more in particular Perma Guard. Perma Guard is a company that has produced a wonderful product for over 35 years. It's very low in silicates and yet is an excellent product in terms of insect control, parasite control as well as being a connective tissue builder.
In part of the speech given by John he pointed out that there are various websites where many people have started taking Diatomaceous Earth personally for the use of extracting or extrapolating heavy metals from their bodies. This is an amazing thing when you think of how many of these heavy metals including such things as lead, mercury, cadmium, copper, zinc, etc. have accumulated in the human body over our lifetime.

We have also found new uses for this product such as treating animals with sore feet. One of the greatest healers is used by stuffing Perma Guard into the wound or the sore and bandaging it up for a few days. It seems as though this use of this material works wonders. John also gave examples of how this material can be used for almost any animal with problems with scouring or diarrhea and when fed it seems to act as a material that draws both virus and bacteria out of the body and solidifies the stool. We know that for years many mink farmers have been feeding D.E. in their feed to control flies.
As we all know, mink have a very high level of protein in their diet and therefore much of their manure is very high in ammonia or urea and this is what will attract flies. With the D.E. being fed in the rations this seems to give a very high degree of control without a lot of chemical use as well.

Electrical Pollution - David Colling

Our second speaker, David Colling, seemed to have a great deal of information regarding the effects of electricity. All of the energy saving appliances that we use in our day and age are supposed to cut down on the amount of electricity, yet seem to make meters spin faster than ever. David showed many examples of some of the farms he has been to and how this harmonic frequency rides on the 60-cycle sine wave. It seems to be slowly microwaving us without us even being aware of what is happening to us. He also gave many examples of some of the farms he has visited and some of the things that he has seen.

Acadian Kelp Meal - Lowell Seaman

Lowell discussed the benefits of Kelp Meal ( Ascophyllum nodosum ) when applied to soils and fed to livestock. Lowell showed detailed test results that demonstrated increased immune systems as well as increased mineralization of the body.

The Immune System ~ Investing in the Future - Murray Bast

The last speaker of the day was Murray Bast who detailed some of the ideas about nutrition and minerals and what it takes to keep our animals and our immune systems hardy and healthy. This included many things such as probiotics, chelated minerals, B vitamins and some of the things such as Kelp Meal and D.E., which other speakers discussed
