Bio-Ag Enews#3 ....Part #2........Immunization
This is the second of a series dealing with Immunization.
Is Vaccination Immunization?
Vaccinations for both human and animal populations have become a regular
feature in our daily news. In the wake of terror and with fears of biological
weaponry, the American government has taken steps to vaccinate their entire
military against small pox and to create a stockpile of the vaccine sufficient
for the nation. The scope of this effort is staggering. In recent years
we have witnessed outbreaks of first Mad Cow disease and then Foot and
Mouth disease in Britain and Europe. Debate has surfaced concerning the
economic and health implications of vaccination as opposed to the eventual
mass culling and slaughter of non-vaccinated herds that took place.
Our last Enews examined some of the history and origins of vaccination,
we will now take a look at some of the opposing notions regarding the subject.
An interesting wrinkle was discovered in the American Homeland Security
Act, signed into law by President Bush. A last minute clause was added
to the bill giving the manufacturers of vaccines, in particular the Eli
Lilly Company, a blanket immunity from liability from harm caused by their
products. Having performed risk analyses and created adverse reaction models,
the government and medical professionals acknowledged a potential for one
death in a thousand from the small pox vaccine. With a population nearing
300 million that would mean something on the order of 300,000 deaths, and
many times that many adverse and often debilitating reactions.
What makes this even more interesting is that Republican members of
the Senate and Congress have acted swiftly to strip this clause from the
act. The so-called Lilly clause will not survive the pressure to avoid
the appearance of governmental impropriety, considering that Lilly is one
of the single largest contributors to Republican candidates and causes.
While this is all very interesting, and a touch frightening, how does it
apply to the agricultural professional? The majority of the studies done
with vaccination and immunization techniques have been performed to meet
human needs of disease prevention. In veterinary terms the largest amount
of study has been devoted to house pets, which represent an incredibly
lucrative market. When it comes to your livestock, the majority of the
studies done are by the producers of the vaccines themselves. The totality
of those privately funded studies are not open to public scrutiny. In short
the information you have available is limited and slanted.
Few could forget the horrific images of mass pyres of infected livestock,
the tremendous losses suffered by British and European farmers. As losses
mounted pressure was increased to undertake vaccination on a huge scale.
Estimates of 300 million head of cattle, sheep and pigs would require nearly
a billion doses in the first year, with no guarantees. As the European
Union mandates a non-vaccination policy, taking this course would freeze
transport of all meat products from the vaccinating country. That would
amount to a crippling embargo, further affecting an already devastated
farm community. In a population at risk would these measures work to quell
or prevent further outbreaks? The experts don't believe so.
Livestock Vaccination Not a Cure-All for Foot and Mouth Disease
Dr. David Griswold from Penn State College of Agriculture writes:
“...It also doesn't prevent animals who are exposed to the virus from
taking that virus into their bodies and becoming carriers for extended
periods of time. So although we immunize, we may not be preventing the
infection or the carrier state.”

Inquiry Into Infectious Disease In Livestock Vaccination Subgroup
Dr. Gareth Davies echoes this finding in the Royal Society's investigations
into the Foot and Mouth outbreaks:
“...the vaccination of infected animals could result in live virus being
carried for long periods.”

Disadvantages of Vaccinations Outweigh the Benefits

The debate about vaccination will continue in every forum for the foreseeable
future. In both human and veterinary medicine, adverse reactions to vaccines
are routinely undiagnosed and/or under reported. The success attributed
to mandated vaccination policies are coming under fire in the medical establishment.
The United States has paid out nearly 750 million dollars in damages to
the families of adverse vaccine reaction victims, ranging from death to
debilitation. There is increasing suspicion that childhood vaccination
may be linked to such conditions as Attention Deficit Disorder, Autism
and environmental illnesses like Asthma and a host of Allergies. Anecdotal
evidence would indicate that infectious disease rates began falling prior
to the introduction of vaccination policies and that those declines more
likely resulted from improved conditions of hygiene, sanitation and nutrition.
Good old-fashioned common sense tells us that the first defense against
infectious disease is proper hygienic and sanitary conditions combined
with a healthy diet. The introduction of a vaccine is an intentional assault
on the system, to encourage the triggering of the immune system to “strengthen”.
In essence, practicing the notion that, what doesn't kill me, makes me
stronger. Vaccines are often toxins, carcinogens and mutated disease cells
and they certainly do effect the immune system. unfortunately it may be
generations before the real effects become apparent.

NATURAL IMMUNITY Why You Should NOT Vaccinate! by Pat McKay
"The general public has been sucked into believing that decayed animals,
diseased blood, sera, bacteria, viruses, formaldehyde, mercury derivatives,
acetone, aluminum and carbolic acid - shot directly into our blood systems
- is the answer to keeping us free of disease. How barbaric."
--
"Dr Ronald D Schultz, one of the foremost veterinary immunologists in
the world, is on record as saying that annual vaccination for viral disease
is not only unnecessary, but that it also causes significant problems.
A growing number of vets, predominantly in America but also in the UK,
contend that vaccines are now causing more diseases than they are
preventing."

The following excerpt from an article on positivehealth.com offers an
insight into the sorts of symptoms you might encounter as adverse reactions
to vaccination among your animals.
http://www.positivehealth.com/permit/Articles/Animals/horses.htm
“Vaccinosis, or vaccinia is the term used to describe the set of symptoms
recognized by Homeopaths and other Naturopathic Healthcare Professionals,
as being the morbid constitutional
state engendered by the vaccine virus. The effects of chronic Vaccinosis
are various but frequently include severe skin disorders, e.g. urticaria,
excema, lupus vulgaris, warts, spongy tumours etc. In the canine world
skin disorders are a serious problem currently affecting thousands of animals,
ranging from minor skin symptoms through to complete and total alopecia.
Once this state has been reached the cell metabolism is impaired and the
nervous system is severely affected. This leaves the animal vulnerable,
and exposed to various allergic reactions and
allergens that would normally be tolerated, such as fleas and house
dust mites.”
While the debate rages on, you will make your own decisions as to whether
you choose to vaccinate your livestock. We can only encourage you to do
some research into the various sides of this issue and make an informed
decision. The next Enews will cover some alternatives to what have become
conventional, pharmaceutical practice. We will examine homeopathic treatments
that may provide an option to encourage the health of your investment.
Until then, take care and be well.
Yours Sincerely,
Patrick Wey

We are a company dedicated to enhancing the agricultural
industry through working with nature naturally.
Bio-Ag has supplied the North American Agricultural Market since 1982
with products and services of
appropriate sustainable technologies. Our research has assisted thousands
of farmers in appreciating the
principles of ecological sound agriculture. Some have adapted themselves
towards the fastest growing
industry in North America: organic / safe foods, however...
95% of our customers are conventional farmers, only 5% are organic farmers.
We are suppliers of natural agricultural products for feed, soil, livestock,
manure additives, mold inhibitors,
health care, water and we service our customers with healthy solutions
for a financially successful farm
operation.
We manufacture a line of probiotics which is quickly replacing the
