Newsletter
- September 1999
-------------------------------------------
Can you believe it? Here we are again at the end of another gorgeous
summer with fall fast approaching. In the last three to six month,
many new developements have ocurred as fas as the genetically
modified crop scenario is concerned. Let me preface that just
a bit by telling you that Europe has banned virtually all of the
GMOs and one of the biggest things is of course the mad cow disease.
This has basically made the Europeans so very afraid of anything
after what both England and Belgium have been through.
It May Reduce the Risk of Cancer
An interesting article in this newsletter is one that recommends
the use of Linoleic and Linolenic acid. Basically, this comes
from different oil sources such as Evening Primrose, Flaxseed
Oil and Borage Oil. you will see the interesting comments we have
made on these articles. We have said for a long time that both
humans and animals do much better on these oils. An interesting
note is that they are now finding out that we cannot do without
some oils or fats in our diets. These are things that will continue
to help us decrease body fat and fat accumulation. It appears
to be the same thing in animals One of the most interesting factors
is that the whole North American obsession with cutting back on
fat has caused a lot of mental disturbances in a great number
of people.
USA Seeks to Ban Non-Pasteurized Cheese
from World Trade
In the Wall Street Journal, the USA is seeking to ban non-pasteurized
cheese from world trade. The issue was brought to a head when
two people died and a third fell into a coma after they consumed
what they thouht was an Epoisses cheese. It was made in rural
Burgundy in France. As it turned out it was an imitation, it didn't
come from raw milk but rather was made from pasteurized milk.
The same thing happened in the United States
with sales of non-pasteurized apple juice last year. When the
real truth came out, this apple juice had all been so-called pasteurized.
It is interesting that the final analysis by the gentleman from
France is that on an absolute basis (whatever that means) pasteurized
milk cheeses are safer, however the problem is that they don't
taste like cheese.
Non-Antibiotic Mastitis Control Looks
Good in Irish Research
Many of you have wondered about Culbac and how it works. A nice
little article came in the Irish Farmers Journal. Culbac works
because they are using lactic acid and other natural inhibitors
such as the bacteriocin produced by lactic acid bacteria. A very
intersting article and I hoep that many of read it. This of course
applies to all types of livestock.
Europeans Turn to Wildlife to Escape
Tainted Meats
Another article is taken from the New York Times, of all places.
After all of the problems with one food safety scare after another,
the Europeans in the Belgium-Brussels area are turning to non-fed
exotic meat. They are importing kangaroo meat like crazy. It has
become a very boutique type of game meat and last year Australia
exported 13 million pounds. By coincidence a shipment of several
hundred tons of sausage grade kangaroo reached Europe just as
the recent Belgian dioxin scare broke out. Kind of interesting,
isn't it?
Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy
Another intersting little article that is included in an article
put out by the Townsend Letter for Doctors & Patients, a magazine
that we get here in this office. The article as you can see is
a wasting disease and characterized by sponge-like holes in the
brain. All forms of TSE as they call this, are caused by prions,
disease-causing proteins that are unrelated to bacteria, viruses,
fungi, or parasites. Much of this has been studied and talked
about since 1916 however we are now re-inventing a brand new wheel
and in the United States we are told there is no mad cow disease.
However! One of our fiends from Michigan has just informed us
that if someone dies from Alzheimer's, the medical people in the
United States absolutely refuse to do any type of autopsy or if
the body has been donated to research, they will not use the body
because they are scared to death of guess what - Creutzfeldt-Jakob
disease, the human form of TSE. If you want to do further research,
you can look on the internet at www.gerson.org.
They are also finding now that there is a direct
connection between infection, exhaustion, emotional stress and
over exposure to the sun which are known to trigger flare-ups
of lupus. Now they are implicating NutraSweet and Aspartame. You
can also look on the internet if you want to see more of that
at www.dorway.com/blayport.txt.
Government, Business Now Open Partners
to Push Food Globalization
One other interesting article that might catch your eye is one
by Alan Guebert. Mr. Guebert is from Illinois and writes many
articles about the wonderful world of politics and in here you
will see some of his writings on how governments and big business
are now combined to globally push their food globalization. This
will give yo a bit of an idea of what is going on in our political
system and how bad this really is.
Genetically Modified Organisms
Having said all of this, the thing on GMOs is really starting
to heat up. This week, I will be taping a program on TVO, channel
28, airing Thanksgiving Day, October 11 on the More to Life show
at 1:00pm. This documentary is devoted to discussing genetically
modified foods. They will have several people for and several
against, and this would probably be a good thing to observe.
The GMO thing in recent months has become a
hot topic of debate and the big chain stores and sitributors of
food are getting backed into a serious conrner about whether or
not to label GMO food. I don't understand why they don't label
food for people to eat so they are orally vaccinated without any
more needles! You would think that these people of this supposed
level of brilliance and intelligence would see this as one of
the greatest marketing ploys to get premium profits for their
seriously messed up food. However, they seem to be very reluctant.
One has to seriously question if this stuff is as good as they
say it is, why are they so afraid of labeling?
Feed Sampling
Just a reminder that we are encouraging all of you to get your
feed sampled as many of you have done. It is getting to be that
time of year when you will be stabling animals again and the sooner
that you get this done, the better and easier it will be for Carl
and Betty Ann to get these rations done for you. Any of you that
are in the poultry or hog industry, with all these new types of
feed out there including corn and soybeans, it certainly would
not hurt to get some of these tests done on some of these ingredients
especially if you are doing your own mixing.
Until next time, we wish you the very best in farming and the
very best that life has to offer.

Mixing Fee
Since opening our premix facility in January,
we have made many changes to fine tune our equipment. As we had
expected, we are now doing more custom mixes, making it more convenient
for our customers. An example of this, is mixing several feed
supplements together to save you time on feeding your livestock.
Instead of feeding each ingredient separately, you can now make
"one trip around the barn." We are very pleased to fulfill
your requests and trust that you will take advantage of our made-to-order
services.
In fairness to all of you, we have decided to charge a standard
fee for all custom mixes. As of September 1, a charge of 35 cents
per bag will be applied on all mixes. This includes a combination
of different ingredients or premixes that require additions to
our standard formulas. Our standard line of premixes will be exempt
from this charge.
We invite your input with regards to special combinations of feed
supplements that will make your operation run more smoothly. Please
feel free to call the office and we will do our best to accomodate
you.
Bio-Ag Dealer Profile
Henry and Janet Boot
Henry and Janet Boot have a 30 head Jersey
herd on a 100 acre farm at Clinton. Henry, a graduate of Ridgetown
College, along with Janet have a background in the broiler breeder
industry. From 1980 to 1993 they owned and operated a poultry
farm in Wyoming, Ontario. Since 1985 they have been working with
organics and were certified organic on the land from 1989 to 1993.
In 1993 they went into the dairy industry and moved to Clinton
along with their two daughters.
Working with the cows, they became interested
in homeopathy. After experiencing the loss of several cows to
E. Coli mastitis problems, they started on the Bio-Ag program
in the spring of 1997. Like most customers, they started with
a few products, namely Vitamin C and Protein Feed and they pastured
their cows on intensively grassed pasture. Several things they
experienced while on the Bio-Ag program included reduced mastitis
problems, saved cows and reduced vet bills.
Henry and Janet attended seminars, talked to several other Bio-Ag
customers and increased their awareness of natural ways to make
their business more profitable. Because of their success with
Bio-Ag products and a strong interest in organics, natural health
and homeopathy, they joined the Bio-Ag team as dealers in 1997.
Their distribution area covers Goderich, Clinton, Seaforth, Mitchell,
Exeter, Parkhill and surrounding areas.
It was natural that with their extensive background
in the poultry industry, that they assumed the role of Bio-Ag
Poultry Consultants. Henry and Janet are a definite asset to the
Bio-Ag team. Their involvement in the agricultural business is
augmented by serving on committees, Janet on the Huron County
Milk Committee and Henry on the Huron Federation of Agriculture.
Their enthusiasm and dedication are contagious and they are more
than willing to discuss Bio-Ag's advantages with you. You can
contact Henry and Janet at (519) 233-5454 phone and fax or by
calling Head Office at 1-800-363-5278.
