EVALUATES EFFECT OF FERMENTATION AIDS

ON RUMEN BACTERIA

Fistulated rumen studies were used at Utah State University to evaluate the effect of fungal enzymes, yeast, and one of the active ingredient in Enzo-lac on fermentation and microbial parameters in the rumen of dairy cows. In these studies each of the products were evaluated based on the manufacturers recommended feeding directions.

The effects of yeast, fungal enzymes and one of the active ingredients in Enzo-lac on total rumen bacteria are shown in the following chart: (Total Rumen Bacteria x 1010/ml)

The results of these studies show that all fermentation aids evaluated (yeast, fungal enzymes, and the active ingredient in Enzo-lac) increased the total bacteria numbers in the rumen.

Levels of NDF and ADF were higher in the treated cows using the active ingredient in Enzo-lac than in the untreated controls. The following table indicates the improvement in rumen digestibility.

The results in the table shows the effects of the active ingredient of Enzo-lac on fiber digestion in the rumen. The results of this trial shows that both levels of Enzo-lac (10 & 15 grams a day) increased NDF and ADF compared to untreated controls.
