| Products for Water Quality |
Water quality is an important, but often undervalued,
aspect of herd health. Bio-Ag does water testing with an independent
laboratory and from the test results can recommend a couple of
different remediation measures, should they prove necessary.
Bio-Ag carries 35% National Standards Foundations[NSF] Grade; highest standard available Hydrogen
Peroxide, an effective alternative to chlorine treatments in livestock
barns. It is also used to:
- clean up and help break down waste in septic
tank systems
- aids in breaking down manure in pits when
agitating
- along with White Vinegar, ensures that pipelines
are kept clean in dairy barns.
We also carry Stenner metering pumps to easily
measure the addition of the Hydrogen Peroxide to your water lines.

| ManureBuster Liquefier 'Makes Good Neighbours' |
Ideal for manure pits, ManureBuster
is a bacteria product that will reduce E. Coli and Pseudomonas
in liquid manure. This means you will have less pollution of soil,
better nutrient availability and better release of nutrients.
It is best to add ManureBuster
to your pit after pumping, to aid in composting of solids as the
pit fills up. ManureBuster can also be used effectively in flow
gutters, washdowns and composting.
Available in a 9 litre jug.
Livestock farmers know manure and odour are a part of every day life on the farm. But they don't like it. Their nonfarming neighbours, however, are much less accepting of manure. To them, it's air pollution. And when they smell it, they worry about its potential to become water pollution.
Add the frustration and risks to farm workers associated with emptying manure pits and spreading it on land, and it's clear. There has to be a better way.
MANUREBUSTER PIT LIQUEFIER REDUCES:
- Odours
- Solids
- Pathogens
How ManureBuster Pit Liquefier works
It's not magic. It's biology - microbiology, in fact. The odour from manure pits is hydrogen sulfide. Hydrogen sulfide occurs when organic material is decomposing or breaking down very slowly. It takes a healthy population of microorganisms, both anaerobic and aerobic, to do an efficient job of digesting manure. Unfortunately, many manure pits end up with a thick crust that excludes oxygen from the manure, leaving only anaerobic bacteria to do the work.
ManureBuster Pit Liquefier contains live, naturally occurring microorganisms that thrive in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. As soon as you add them to a source of manure, they feed on the organic matter and multiply rapidly, creating a living, breathing ecosystem. In days, some of these beneficial microorganisms (aerobic) start consuming the solids on the surface. Others go to work on the solids on the bottom (anaerobic).
ManureBuster Pit Liquefier breaks down solids, converting them to liquids and altering the availability of nutrients - nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and a host of micronutrients.
"The manure additive has a significant impact on bacterial populations and has the potential to noticeably reduce odours under good management practices." - Barrington
The microorganisms convert these to "slow release" forms, less likely to be lost once applied to soils. The nutrients are still there and available to plants. Nitrogen is tied up so it will neither volatilize nor leach into groundwater. The microorganisms in ManureBuster Pit Liquefier also compete with harmful bacteria, reducing the populations of E. coli, other fecal coliform and streptococci. It works in lagoons, tanks or solid manure systems on hog, dairy and beef operations.
Reduces Odours
In research at the Macdonald Campus of McGill University, Suzelle Barrington found "the manure additive significantly reduced the population of pathogens and other bacteria. It's the bacteria that produces the odour so it's logical the product has a positive impact on odour production, "says Barrington.
What a panel of unbiased research judges found:
Six panelists smelled the gases emitted by manure after 30 days storage. They smelled manure treated with ManureBuster Pit Liquefier at various rates and compared it to the smell of untreated manure. Results suggest Manure Buster Pit Liquefier has the potential to significantly reduce the odour of manure.
Farmers' neighbours agree
A swine operation with a 4O0-head finishing barn runl near Goderich, Ontario had received complaints from local neighbours. Over several years, neighbours told him a "dead animal smell" was coming from his manure tank. The manure pit is covered and has walls rather than pillars to support its lid. Because of the confining construction, sufficient agitation had always been difficult, despite the tank being emptied three times a year.
He thought it was conceivably possible to be environmentally responsible, but still he received complaints. During the summer of 2000, he started using ManureBuster Pit Liquefier both in his pit and in the gutters in his barn. Later, he asked his neighbours if things had improved.
"I asked a neighbour who had complained in the past about the smell and he said he had not noticed any smell from my operation during the summer,"
Reduces solids
ManureBuster Pit Liquefier puts living, naturally occurring organisms that digest solids into manure pits. And it doesn't take long.
Manure pits treated with ManureBuster Pit Liquefier quickly change in appearance. Initially, solids make up a large proportion of pit contents, often forming crusts on top up to 18" thick. Within days, producers see the microbes doing their job. First, they see bubbles and foam on the surface. Within 90 days, after digestion has continued until the crust is virtually gone and the tank contains mostly liquids. Easy to pump. Easy to spread.
Reduces pathogens
Research at Macdonald Campus of McGill University clearly found ManureBuster Pit Liquefier had a significant impact on the number of bacteria in manure after 30 days of aging in triplicate samples. The results show a statistically significant difference in bacterial counts between treated and untreated manure at a 99% confidence level. The fecal bacteria count was slashed by a factor of three, fecal streptococci by a factor of two to three and the number of total coliform by 1.4 to 1.8.
Increases the value of manure fertilizer
- decreases risk of pollution
Farmers try their best to limit odours and the risk of water pollution by spreading this important resource at the right time, at the right rate and incorporating it as quickly as possible. But even that doesn't always work.
ManureBuster Pit liquefier assists composting of manure in the pit. Once it gets to the field, nutrients are tied up in forms much less likely to have an environmental impact. It still has to be applied at appropriate rates and incorporated. But the risks are substantially reduced. And the nutrients are available to plants when they need it, increasing the overall value of manure for healthy crop production.
How to use ManureBuster Pit Liquefier
Initial treatment
ManureBuster Pit Liquefier comes in an easy-to-dispense liquid form. The recommended rate is approximately 4 Litres of product for 400,000 Litres of manure. Consult your local Bio-Ag representative for appropriate treatments, depending on the size and condition of individual manure pits.
For best results in pits, lagoons and above ground tanks, break up the crust in a couple of areas and pour ManureBuster Pit liquefier into the opening. In confinement areas or barns, add the product through the barn pit that feeds waste to the main holding area.
Maintenance treatment
Refer to the ManureBuster Pit Liquefier label for a simple maintenance program. Apply appropriate label rate after the final fall pumping and a maintenance rate as recommended for the next five months until spring pumping.

Help for your Nutrient Management Plan
Ontario's Environmental Farm Plans (EFPs) are admired around the world. Legislation surrounding the Nutrient Management Plan component of Ontario's EFP is evolving. Similar requirements will follow throughout Canada. Strict rules governing application rates of available N, P and K and odour will no doubt impact how farmers manage manure.
ManureBuster Pit Liquefier can help reduce odours and stabilize valuable, yet potentially harmful nutrients. Ask your local Bio-Ag representative for a complete consultation on how best to manage manure and odour in the barn, in storage and in the field. We have solutions!
Notice :
ManureBuster Pit Liquifier will not work by itself in newly cemented pits and lagoons without an additive being applied to the manure. Fresh cement is very alkaline and will neutralize the affects of the ManureBuster Liquifier if used only by itself.
Be sure to call our office if you have any question.
